NOTE as of May 31, 2022: We have since deprecated Neumann testnet in lieu of Turing staging.

With Turing Staging we’re able to test XCMP with other parachains live on Rococo. Neumann used a self-hosted/internal relay chain, which was needed because Rococo only went live and became stable earlier this year. Neumann was the best solution we had at that time, but with Rococo’s latest revamp and the Parity team granting us a permanent slot in Rococo, we’re able to test in a staging environment with cross-chain functionality enabled with Turing staging. Given that as well as the maintenance cost to upkeep a testnet relay chain, we’ve decided to use Turing Staging as our testnet environment.
Hello community members!
We are pleased to announce the launch of our parachain testnet, Neumann (NEU).

Parachain vs Standalone
Our OAK Testnet has been live in the PolkadotJS App since July 2021. This was a standalone chain that was used for staking for our early community members and our quadratic funding application. Later in 2021, the OAK team decided to start building towards becoming a parachain in the DotSama ecosystem. This will enable the team to seamlessly communicate and facilitate transactions with best-in-class Polkadot parachain projects. Neumann is the first step to our path as a parachain. OAK Network is targeting a Kusama parachain auction launch early this year. Stay up to date via Twitter.
What have we been up to?
The OAK Engineering team has been heads down building the MVP for OAK’s event-driven execution model. We’ve proven in December that this was possible in Substrate (without any significant limitations).
What do we need from you?

We love our early community adopters. We have a dedicated, supportive and helpful set of folks who are validators, collators and early users of the blockchain. Neumann testnet is a parachain, so the staking model differs quite a bit from that of Polkadot (and Kusama, and Rococo, or any stanalond chain). Please expect chaos as we go through our feature rollouts.
The OAK team is designing and experimenting with new staking models for our parachain collators. We are currently working with early community members who have expressed interest in becoming service providers (validators for standalone and collators for parachain) for Neumann. If you are interested in becoming a collator, please contact us at collators@oak.tech.
What’s next?
In the next few weeks we are expanding our collator set with more fine tuning of our staking model to other community members. We are also looking for folks who are interested in testing out our event-execution model for task automation. We have lots more in store including airdrops for early adopters, so make sure to join our Discord for updates and check out our roadmap for more information.
Stay tuned for further information about the OAK Network here on Medium, Twitter and LinkedIn, as well as in our Discord Server!
