Developers from all over gathered in Salt Lake City this month for the Permissionless III Hackathon, centered on the theme “A Multichain Future.” The event, co-hosted by Blockworks and Bankless with buidlbox, offered a collaborative space for participants to work on innovative solutions across various ecosystems, setting the stage for 36 hours of intensive learning and competition.
As a key sponsor, Ava Protocol led a specialized track focused on decentralized automation. It featured two challenges designed to make Ava Protocol’s event-driven EigenLayer AVS technology more accessible for powering seamless, private, autonomous super-transactions.
Ava Protocol Track Overview
1. Product Design Challenge: Create a Demo for DeFi, NFT, or Smart Contract Automation
Participants were tasked with creating interactive demos showcasing real-world use cases for web3 automation. The challenge encouraged builders to simulate user flows and prototype interfaces that demonstrated Ava Protocol’s automation capabilities across DeFi, NFTs, real-world assets, and other sectors.
🏆 Winner: AeroVault
- Overview: AeroVault is a delta-neutral strategy tool that helps users actively manage veAERO positions by automating bribe income handling and collateralizing holdings on Compound Finance.
- Key Features:
- Automates complex workflows, including token bribe conversions, risk management, and hedging strategies using Ava Protocol's automation framework.
- A dynamic risk-adjustment slider allows users to adjust their risk profile based on desired outcomes.
- Highlights: AeroVault impressed with its approach to navigating volatile markets, illustrating decentralized automation’s utility for managing DeFi risks.
🎖️ 2nd Place: Ava Blocks
- Overview: Ava Blocks is a drag-and-drop interface that helps users easily build and interact with smart contracts, offering a Studio-like experience with modular blocks for DeFi, derivatives, prediction markets, and gaming.
- Key Features:
- A dual-view setup combines drag-and-drop functionality with a linear execution perspective, letting users visualize smart contract logic in real-time.
- Custom block creation gives advanced users the ability to add functionality that is tailored to specific use cases.
- Highlights: Ava Blocks made automated contract development more accessible, visual, and interactive for both experienced developers and newcomers alike.
The winners of the first challenge: AeroVault and Ava Blocks teams.
2. SDK Build Challenge: Build an SDK for Automating Smart Contracts
This challenge focused on creating SDKs that integrate Ava Protocol's backend API to simplify Ethereum transaction automation. Participants could work with TypeScript, Python, or other languages to enhance developer accessibility. Here are the standouts projects:
🎖️ Avacube
- Overview: Avacube leveraged the Stainless API to create a modular SDK featuring ETH transfers, task scheduling, and MetaMask integration.
- Highlights: Despite deployment issues, the project demonstrated rapid development capabilities with clear documentation.
🎖️ JavaScript SDK for Ava Protocol
- Overview: This SDK emphasized core functionalities like task management, smart wallet creation, and token-based interactions.
- Highlights: With simplified setup and integration, it aimed to enable developers to efficiently automate their workflows.
🎖️ Ava Protocol AVS Python SDK
- Overview: Built using gRPC, the Python SDK provided automated task management, authentication, and web3 integration.
- Highlights: While time constraints affected full development, the SDK established a solid base for building complex automation solutions.
Honorable mentions from the second challenge.
